The Mackie MR624 is an active 6.5" studio monitor that delivers a clear and natural sound image of the audio signals, for a range of applications including speech, hip hop, rock, pop and more. A precise playback and wide frequency range of 38Hz–20kHz work in any genre, whilst the logarithmic waveguide magnifies the sweetest spots at any time.
Equipped with a 6.5” woofer and a 1” tweeter with a silkscreen for detailed highs, this monitor is powered by a 65W Class A/B bi-amplifier, all within a sturdy and robust MDF housing. In addition to XLR, RCA and RCA inputs, the rear panel provides an Acoustic Space section that allows the speaker to be adapted to your own listening situation. This means that working in smaller rooms is also suitable. With an adjacent High Frequency filter switch, additional frequencies can be cut or boosted.
Summary of the Mackie MR Series from Sound on Sound Magazine March 2018
All monitors are a compromise but, given the price, Mackie have done a great job with these new MR models and they won’t get in the way of you making good-sounding mixes.
With Mackie’s experience in making monitors, its no surprise that their affordable new range punches above its weight.
Pros
Affordable.
Comfortable to work with for long periods.
Good sense of stereo width combined with depth perspective.
Cons
As with many affordable ported monitors, the end suffers from a degree of port ‘overhang’ making bass notes sound less tight than they should.
I was surprised at how quickly the speaker arrived to UK from Germany, especially given COVID-19!
About the product, I was considering a Yamaha HS7 and while I am sure I would have been happy with it, I wanted to give Mackie a go. I use them as monitors on my DJM-250MK2, wow are they loud! Well happy and as others have said, i've heard frequencies I don't think I've heard before, makes such a big difference. I predominantly play vinyl. They are big and chunky, be warned though they make a statement!!
