The Remo ENCORE Ambassador Hazy 13" is a medium strength resonance head and is suitable for all snare drum types. A balanced mixture of low, medium and high frequencies allows combinations with any drumhead and makes the ENCORE Ambassador Hazy an all-rounder for almost any musical style.
The ENCORE Ambassador Hazy resonance head is made of a 3 mil thin Mylar film, so it is only about 1/3 as thick as a medium thickness head. This provides for a very fine response of the snare wire and thus for crisp, warm and powerful snare sounds.
The Remo Encore heads are the price-performance star from Remo's head range. The heads are manufactured in the Taiwanese Remo factory according to the design of their American siblings. A difference is made when attaching the Mylar film to the aluminum ring:
Instead of connecting the two with liquid glue, the striking surface is pressed into the aluminum ring together with a steel core and thus firmly joined together.
This is my first time trying the ‘encore’ series of Remo skins. I always presumed they couldn’t be much good if they were so cheap, but I’ve recently needed cheaper heads to put on cheaper kits/snares I’m selling. These are extremely useful for that. I can see the difference in construction (crimped rim rather than glue join) but as far as I can tell not a huge difference in sound which is really unexpected. I haven’t tried a batter head yet
