The Roland TR-8S is a modern re-imagining of one of the most famous and influential drum machines ever built, and a combination of classic design and modern technology. The TR-8S has been specifically aimed at those musicians who take to the stage, with innovations especially suited to live performance.
Using the iconic percussive sound bank it is possible to tailor the perfect kit to your needs, and the range of options available here has been expanded to include some of the best samples from the Roland vaults. If this still leaves you wishing for more the TR-8S can import your custom samples to use as well. These hybrid and layered kits can be truly unique, giving your music an audible edge over the competition. Classic Roland circuit models drawn from include the 808, 606, 909, 707, 727 and a handful of modified units. An extensive set of parameters allows for the addition of effects on each channel, alongside Tuning and Envelope controls. Velocity sensitive performance pads can be used to play live or record to the sequencer, and playing and editing can be effortlessly switched at will. Up to 128 user defined patterns can be stored on the TR-8S (with three kinds of fills and eight variations) and patterns or variations can be triggered individually or chained together for evolving sequences. Much of this tool-kit can be automated to create organic and dynamic patches.

The only thing I’d advise anyone doing when they order a Roland TR8S online is to check where the product is coming from. Mine came from Germany and as such comes with a European power supply which is not a 3 pin plug. You’ll need an adaptor or order a separate PSU for the UK.
Superb machine. All the benefit of classic sound-sets, alongside samples and option to import. Fairly intuitive architecture and progammability - I had it up and running within 30 minutes. Particularly good for interactive live use, but will also feature well in my studio. Only design point is that a slight tilt would make it easier to use as a desktop machine.
Already owned the TR8 which I really liked but sold a couple of years ago in a hardware clearout, but always regretted selling the tr8 as it was a lot of fun and the kits where great. Have now purchased the tr8s which is even better, the drum kits are amazingly accurate, the whole interface is spot on. Very easy to set up with my mac, my centre piece bit off kit now, I will not be selling this on, it's a keeper..
