Expensive, as everything designed in USA. I believe German could duplicate it with better Price/performance ratio. Unfortunately i could not discover RME device like this one, thus purchased this. Sound wise it is super, but gain headroom is NOT so unbeatable as advertised. My RME UFX preamps are better in my opinion. Allover the device is super, Touchscreen is super, functionality is super...
Good sound quality, robust product and small enough to carry anywhere. Good sound. Awesome that it works with batteries if needed!!! A big minus is the headphone gain (poor amp inside mix-pre3) that gives distortion. It has confused me to think the rec sound also has distortion although there is not.
Purchased as a replacement for a firewire interface, the MixPre-3 sounds better with more clean gain. No Mac driver needed as it is class-compliant.
Routing is flexible enough for recording VoIP or web conference software and you have options to reduce the visible inputs for apps that don't work with more than 2in.
It does need plenty of power. Twin USB works, your phone/iPad charger probably won't. The Anker pack recommended by SD lasts for hours but alkaline AA batteries are only good for a few minutes.
