The VC16 vocoder from Behringer is a digital 16-band vocoder in Eurorack format with an integrated USB/MIDI interface. Vocoder have always had something magical, even mystical about them. The VC16 takes away much of the complexity of this type of device and manages with just a few controls. Instead of a sawtooth oscillator like most analog Vocoder use as a carrier signal, the VC16 scores with six digital synthesis algorithms (Triangle/Ramp, Square/Pulse, Multiple Wave, Noise, Vox, FM). The algorithms can be extensively manipulated with carrier Shape manually and via control voltage. The Vocoder does not have to be played, but can be played tonally. If you use the CV/Gate inputs, the Vocoder works monophonically, via MIDI respectively USB-C the module can be played polyphonically with 3 voices. The carrier input allows you to replace the synthesis algorithms with any external signal - be sure to try out a drum computer or drum loop! Do you know the talking drums from members of Mayday Sonic Empirethe epic vocals from Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, the raspy voice from Kraftwerk Expo 2000 or the Transformers intro from Afrika Bambaataa's Planet Rock? This vocoder can do that and more! An XLR/jack combo socket serves as the audio input, which can be switched between microphone and line level at the rear. To keep your hands free when patching and performing, a headset microphone is recommended, but a normal dynamic microphone will also do the job. The audio output is at Eurorack level.
