The compact CMC3 monitor controller combines the features of Drawmer's three most popular monitor controllers, including the MC2.1's accurate and transparent audio quality, the MC3.1's control capabilities and accuracy, and all packed into the CMC2's space-saving, compact design. The combination makes it the ideal companion in ambitious project studios as well as in a professional recording environment. Of course it was always taken care that the signal fidelity is always given and that no falsified or coloured signals are created by the CMC3. The active circuit design ensures lifelike signal reproduction and avoids many of the known problems of passive circuit concepts.
Thanks to the circuit design adopted from the MC2.1, the CMC3 remains both transparent and accurate. Restrictions of passive circuits are thus bypassed. For example, levels can be raised in quiet passages for control purposes without the sound being affected by the artifacts of lower quality active circuits.
The CMC3 provides connections for three pairs of stereo monitors and a separate output for a mono speaker/subwoofer. The outputs can be activated individually and simultaneously in any order, which is particularly useful for A/B comparisons. The subwoofer can be operated with several speakers or switched off completely.
The volume control is designed as a specially tuned quad potentiometer for perfect channel adjustment and, like the second preset volume control on the front, offers smooth operation. The Preset slider allows the monitor volume to be saved so that the sound engineer can listen to the mix afterwards without having to adjust the volume.
The CMC3 is equipped with four stereo inputs: 1x S/PDIF digital input (24 bit/192 kHz), which uses the same DA converter as the established MC3.1 monitor controller, two balanced stereo jack inputs and a 3.5 mm mini jack input with variable level for smartphones and MP3 players.
In addition, two professional-quality headphone outputs are provided with separate amplifiers and volume controls. These offer the same high-quality sound quality and possibilities for checking a mix as when operating with loudspeakers. Talkback is also possible via an integrated or external microphone with its own level control. The signal is output via a dedicated mono output and the headphone jacks.
The CMC3's comprehensive mixing control features include: Dim, mono, phase inversion, cut functions for the left and right channel and a mute button. So you can reliably check the quality of your recordings: Immerse yourself in the mixes to detect disturbing background noise, test the stereo effect of your mix, detect phase cancellations, and check the stereo difference signal. Functions that many other monitor controllers lack.
The compact case of the CMC3 hides a comprehensive functionality: The flat desktop case has a height of only 3.5 cm with a footprint of 27 x 16 cm.
Despite its compact dimensions, the robust and at the same time attractive steel housing is designed to withstand the rigours of everyday studio use. High-quality technical components were used to ensure reliable operation of the CMC3 over a long period of time. The controller can also be protected against theft via an opening for a Kensington lock.
