The Electro Harmonix Oceans 12 is a powerful dual-reverb effects pedal that delivers both classic reverb sounds and epic ambient soundscapes thanks to two independent but simultaneously usable stereo reverb engines. Each of the 12 reverb effects offers two or three different variations and two separately adjustable special parameters for maximum sonic freedom. In addition to the Lo-Fi mode, the Electro Harmonix Oceans 12 also features the innovative Tide function, which modulates the width of the stereo panorama in stereo mode. Once you have found the right sound settings, they can be easily saved. Last but not least, the Electro Harmonix Oceans 12 offers four controls with two levels of functionality for setting basic effect parameters, an FX loop for integrating additional effect devices for the reverbs and a connector for optional expression pedals or footswitches.
The EHX Oceans 12 is packed with loads of features - far more than the EHX Cathedral Reverb (which I also own and use). As well as standard reverbs like room, hall, spring, plate there are extras like Shimmer, Poly, Infinite and Resonant, all of which open up vast sonic possibilities. Not only that, but there are two identical reverb engines which are stackable (either in parallel, in series or as a stereo split). My only criticism is the size of the pedal - it is too small. It is roughly half the size of the EHX Cathedral and the controls are consequently small and fiddly. Despite that, it's a very good pedal, and will probably replace the Cathedral as my main reverb.
