HD 650 at a glance
Sennheiser's HD 650 is a pair of circumaural, open-back, dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones that, thanks to specially developed materials, have even better sound characteristics than their predecessors. Hand-selected in pairs and close-tolerant, the headphones deliver a unique listening experience with their lightweight aluminum drive coils, while ensuring wearing comfort at all times. If needed, the copper OFC connection cables can be detached and provide enough tear resistance and minimized body noise sensitivity for everyday use. Furthermore, a gold-plated 6.3 mm jack plug with adapter cable to 3.5 mm was included in the scope of delivery. naturally, the elegant Sennheiser HD 650 also makes a lot from the optics and scores here with a high-quality surface design in titanium silver.
They are quite simply the most neutral, honest sounding headphones (above100hz) you are going to get for less than £1000 and you can sit there writing tracks with them indefinitely, without them becoming uncomfortable. They are not great for sub bass. I can't recommend highly enough getting Sonnarworks and putting the profile in Linear Phase Mode. This will make them twice as good as they already are and extend the bass down to about 30 hz (though not great level of detail) which is good enough for most users.
If you're a pro and you work at night and you're fed up of pissing your neighbours off by working in the speakers/your neck can't take the strain of a pair of audeze lcdx's. Then these are great for sketching out ideas you can dial in with your speakers during the day.
If your an entry level/intermediate level producer who mixes their own stuff these are the best value for money you will find - much better than Ollos in my opinion.
I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT1990 pro and though they are excellent/exciting pair of headphones, I wanted to try out sennheiser hd650 as I had heard they sound laid back and have good midrange. That turned out to be true as I am now hoocked to this pair since two days. Beyers though they sound good are fatiguing and earpads at least in my case become hot after sometime. Not the case with HD650. Build quality is little on the lower side but as I said they sound really good. Still I would say, beyers and senn should not be compared in terms of sound. But hd650 is definitely musical and relaxing to ears. Thank you DV247 for speedy delivery. Reached me in 6days. Thank you
