The Sontronics Orpheus is the perfect marriage of form and function. The highly sensitive 1.07 inch dual-diaphragm capsule is suspended in its own special mount and floats almost freely in the spherical basket. The microphone body is made of a cast zinc alloy that has very low self-resonance characteristics, which helps keep the signal crystal clear.
Versatile applications
The directional characteristics (pattern) omni, cardioid and figure-of-eight, as well as a 10dB cut/boost function, make this microphone the perfect all-rounder that can be used in any conceivable studio or live sound situation. The low self-resonance and unmistakable presence allow even the finest instrumental or vocal pieces to be recorded effortlessly in such a way that subsequent cosmetic surgery is not necessary.
I purchased this because I had no multi-pattern mic in my locker. Ive since used it as a nice omni room mic on rock drums, and its performed well. Its distinctive looks have been the subject of many questions from artists, and it sounds well for the price. Only slight negative is the position of the XLR connector making positioning awkward at times. All in all though, a good buy.
