The DTX400K is the smallest kit in the DTX Line-up and comes with a very special feature: with the newly designed kick unit KU100 the playing of the bass drum is very silent, so you can practice nearly noiseless, even in your living room. The DTX400 Tone Generator features 169 drum voices and 128 keyboard voices from its pro-level siblings DTX900 and DTX700.
The DTX400K E-Drum Set is coated with hard rubber pads of Yamaha. All four Pads, a snare and three Tom Pads, have the handy size of 7.5". They feature a good rebound and promise a realistic feeling. The Cymbal Pads with its 10" have a decent size and convince through an equally authentic playability. Both pedals are remarkably quiet while playing and can also be used as double pedal.
The sound module offers capacity for 10 drum kits, which can be overridden. The 169 drum and percussion sounds and 128 keyboard sounds come from the professional DTX700 and DTX900 series and can be individually combined and adapted. You can connect your computer or other sound modules via USB-to-host-connection. The DTX400 sound module offers ten songs to practice and play along. These can be freely exchanged. Thus, there are many different exercise functions, such as Metronome, Groove check, Rhythm gate, Measure Breaks and many many more. An MP3 player can also conveniently connect to the module, which makes it possible to accompany his own favorite music.
Consisting of aluminum tubes, the rack of the DTX400K E-Drum Sets is as simple as effective. A simple rod takes all space and has sufficient scope. The sound module is mounted within reach of the player to the rack and is slightly accessible during drumming.

Around a month ago I bought this kit. I hadnt have a drum kit for around 10 years and just 1 year ago I found out about e-drums so I thought it was a good replacement for an acoustic kit, specially because I live in a flat in the third floor of a building in a residential area, so obviously an acoustic drum kit was not an option. About this the DTX400K is a very discrete kit, so far I havent had any complains from my neighbors. The Kick Unit which replaces a real base drum pedal does some impact on the floor when I play so Im planing to build an raiser surface that absorbs the impact just not to feel guilty for playing at any time I want.
There are 2 things I still need to get used to about this e-drum: first, the Kick Unit. Used to an acoustic drum kit, I have to find the sort of "sweet spot" of the pedal, when I place my foot too much in front of it, I hear a double kick back in my headphones, as a sort of echo. When I place my foot a little backwards on the Kick Unit, almost at the middle of it but still having control on it, then that echo disappears and I hear just what Im playing.
The second thing is the size of the DTX400K and the position of the seat so its comfortable to play. Sometimes it feels like my arms are too long and I have to sort of shrunk a little to be able to make a proper fill and reach each pad. The same with the position and height of the crush and ride pads. When you play on an acoustic drum kit the crush cymbal is positioned somewhere rather high at the left upper corner and your arm length is just right to reach it. The same with the ride cymbal, which usually is placed right above the floor tom, to match comfortably your right arm height. In the DTX400K both cymbal pads are at the same height so you have to get used to play them in that position.
The rest is just loads of benefits and happiness! :-D The e-drum kit can be expanded/upgraded, which is one of the reasons I decided myself for this kit and for Yamaha. The Kick Unit can be upgraded to a real pedal and base drum and the hi-hat and snare drum can also be upgraded to better and more sensitive ones. The 10 different styles the e-drum brain brings are also great for practicing all kind of genders. From rockabilly to metal, pop, electronic and Latin percussion between others the DTX400K brain may seem minimalist and simple, but is very capable. It also brings very useful training programs and predetermined songs of different styles to practice on.
Im so happy with it and happy I can finally pick up drum playing after 10 years of involuntary break (I moved abroad and I couldnt bring my acoustic drum kit with me, plus I live in a flat with neighbors both to left and right and up and downstairs) I would recommend this e-drum kit for whoever who wants to both pick up drumming like me, or is interested in learning drums but lives in a flat.
