Reface DX lets you rediscover legendary FM sounds in a fun way while also creating a new world of FM sounds. A carefully developed control concept also offers beginners intuitive access to FM tone generation. The four capacitive multi-touch sliders allow dynamic modifications of the soundscapes. The Reface DX is a robustly constructed mini synthesizer with smaller keys and is able to operate on battery power. It has internal speakers, a 2-way effect section and a clever loop sequencer. The synthesizer sounds of the legendary Yamaha DX7 have never been this easy to edit as with the Yamaha DX Reface.
Although the Yamaha DX7 of the 80s possessed an FM tone generator with 6 Operators, it is still possible to recreate a lot of original sounds of the 80s with the Yamaha DX Reface. The 4-Operator FM sound generator can also be dynamically controlled via the multi-touch slider - editing FM sounds may have been a nightmare back in the day, the Yamaha Reface DX however is super easy to use - making FM synthesis fun, because the intuitive Multi-touch interface provides direct access to four parameters simultaneously. The good old DX7 did not possess: Feedback Circuits for each operator. In addition, it introduces a pair of newly developed feedback processes which can generate sounds with square and saw-tooth characters. This allows each operator to be assigned an individual sound character. 32 memory spaces allow you to store and quick select individual voices.
With the Reface mobile mini keyboards, Yamaha presents four ultra-compact instruments, based on legendary sound generators, which impress on-the-go on stage and in the studio. Reface is perfect for songwriters, sound designers, stage keyboarders – as well as for anyone who simply wants to have their musical inspiration with them at all times. With battery operation and a great sounding built-in stereo speaker system, the reface quartet is always ready to play. The craftsmanship of the keyboard, case and control elements is much better than you would expect from a Mini Synthesizer.
Through the online collaboration with musicians from around the world as part of the Yamaha sound community Soundmondo and easy connection to Notebooks, Apple iPhones * and iPads *, the four models are ideal for shared creativity.
* The Apple Camera Connection Kit, which must be purchased separately, is required to connect Apple iPhones and iPads.
Many FM sounds rekindle their sonic potential only with the right effects. Fortunately, the Reface DX picked up two programmable Effect blocks along the way, so that you can give the song depth and beat with Chorus and Reverb.
The effects are: VCM Touch Wah, VCM Flanger, VCM Phaser, Chorus, Delay, Reverb and Distortion.
Great instrument with immediacy of being able to pick up and use thanks to having onboard speakers and battery power.
Compared to other synths in the reface range, this one has the most depth of synthesis and the range of sounds. Effects including reverb are essential here.
Limitations are few. No ability to modulate pan/create stereo sound (apart from effects) and no ability to pass aux via effects.
Overall highly recommended, and more fun then the famous microkorg!
