With the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute P-90 Worn White Satin, the traditional Nashville-based company is launching a minimalist interpretation of the legendary Les Paul model that places playing comfort and sound characteristics in the foreground. Accordingly, the mahogany construction wrapped in a satin nitro finish with a glued neck promises a lively and powerful sound response, while the classic "Rounded" neck profile fits snugly and comfortably in the hand. With the classic pickup setup of two Gibson P-90 single-coil pickups, the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute delivers lively vintage sounds with vibrant dynamics, wide midrange and clear trebles that are at home in both blues and rock. Classic hardware in the form of a compensated Gibson wraparound bridge and precise vintage deluxe tuners completes the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute P-90 Worn White Satin.
It's alright but it barely feels better than an Epiphone, save your money and try and get one preowned perhaps.
If you're looking for the full 'Les Paul' sound, this isn't the guitar for you. The Special has always been the most stripped down Gibson and as such has an aggressive, angry sound, not a resonant blues machine. It does one thing and hit does it really well: bashy, loud rock & roll! No top for sustain, harsh pickups but a fantastic 'just right' neck makes this playable all day. And its light!
Very satisfied with this edition of the trusty old LP Special.
It has such a comfortable, yet quite speedy neck, great fretwork and plays like a dream. It has the best frets I have ever played on an entry level Gibson, and better than on quite a few more expensive ones too. Low action and no buzzing, straight from the factory. Also stays in tune forever. Visually, I can’t fault it at anything but the slightly uneven pattern in the wood grain.
Soundwise, it’s pure P-90 pleasure. Raw, rocking and oh so very dynamic, but not too noisy. Far better than the Epiphone (Inspired by Gibson) P-90s I tried a while back.
If you’re looking for a superb do it all durable workhorse, vintage looks, and want to release your inner punk from time to time, it’s hard to think of a better option. Great job, Gibson!
