With the Hagstrom Dark King Super Swede Hagstrom presents a singlecut electric guitar that takes up many elements of the successful and strictly limited Dark King series, but addresses a larger target group with its straightforward finish. Hagstrom uses the proven Super Swede Singlecut design and produces the electric guitar with mahogany body, maple top and an extremely slim mahogany neck with the typical "Resinator Wood" fingerboard and drop-tuning friendly 25.5 inch scale length. Two Lundgren Design humbuckers deliver great sounds between Blues and Metal on the amplifier, but are also not afraid to push back into modern Metal realms. Last but not least, the Hagstrom Dark King Super Swede has a Tune-O-Matic bridge with Hagstrom Sustain Block tailpiece and precise tuners.
The Hagstrom Dark King Super Swede is manufactured with an extended scale length of 25.5", which supports a tight sound even in low pitches. The body of the Hagstrom Dark King is also made of mahogany and has a curved maple top, while the glued mahogany neck has the extremely slim and quickly playable "Slim D" profile thanks to the "H-Expander" tension rod. The "Resinator Wood" fingerboard is also typical of Hagstrom.
The design of the pickups for the Dark King Super Swede was commissioned by Hagstrom from the Swedish pickup pioneer Johan Lundgren, who enjoys a first-class reputation worldwide for good reason. Accordingly, a Lundgren Design No.2 humbucker sits on the neck, while the bridge position is occupied by Lundgren Design No.5. Equipped with Alnico magnets, the pickups convince with a harmonious warmth and a differentiated sound development, which makes them suitable for traditional blues contexts as well as modern rock and metal. The coil split option also provides authentic single coil sounds, while the volume controls with treble bleed prevent loss of volume when the volume is reduced.

I was in the market for an LP shape with a gloss black finish with binding which is what brought me to this guitar in the first place.
Spec wise it’s fantastic and build quality is really good, most importantly it plays super smooth and sounds incredible. The coil tap pickups are extremely versatile and all hardware seems great.
There are some minor marks along the edge of the board where the frets have been finished and a slightly tapered corner at the bottom of the fretboard. These make no issue with playing and can only be seen on close inspection. The gloss finish, all binding and inlays are flawless.
I was worried about the tuners at first but they are really precise, and along with the 25.5 scale and Hagstrom Bridge it keeps tuning stability very well and good tension in the strings.
The Slim D neck is very comfortable as I prefer a thinner neck than traditional LP’s/“D” shape.
Sounds great in the studio with clarity in the pickups and feels sturdy enough for touring in the right case.
I’d never played a Hagstrom before purchasing but it feels and sounds far better than any Epiphone I’ve played before as build quality/hardware is fantastic.
Also the Resinator neck is a wonderful feature giving the guitar a true ebony finish like an LP custom, but also adds so much time onto the sustain.
