The 11 tubes of the Herchild 660
Classic reissued
The Herchild 660 is a single-channeltube-based variable mu compressorinspired by the legendary Fairchild 660. Not only the external appearance, but also the internal components are in no way inferior to the original. The Herchild 660 houses a total of 11 tubes and 5 transformers, which are operated with high voltage. This results in a clean, transparent sound without annoying artifacts. In addition, the device canalsoproduce a heavy and dense effect with the overtones of the audio signal. The fact that the compressor, like the original, works with a gradually developing ratio curve means that no fixed ratios can be specified for the threshold, but there are four threshold curve options that can be set using the large "DC Threshold" rotary control. The amount of compression is adjusted using the " AC Threshold" control. The attack and release times on the Herchild 660 are controlled via a rasterized rotary potentiometer with 6 time constant presets. Position 1, for example, corresponds to an attack time of 0.2ms and Release of 0.3 seconds. The device also has a side chain filter with four setting options at 50Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz and 350Hz.
