Avant-garde 7-string Bass with fretted and fretless fingerboard
With the Ibanez Bass Workshop SRAS7-CBS 2nd Generation Ashula Cosmic Blue Starburst Ibanez presents the further development of the Ashula Bass, which has become a rare collector's item, combining the sound spectrum of basses with fretted and fretless fretboard in an innovative avant-garde instrument. Accordingly, the 7-string Bass features three flatwound strings over the fretless bubinga fingerboard and a piezo pickup for double bass-like sounds, while classic roundwounds over the fretted rosewood fingerboard along with magnetic pickups and the active 2-band tone control provide classic E-Bass sounds.
Avant-garde and particularly flexible, the Ibanez Bass Workshop SRAS7-CBS 2nd Generation Ashula Cosmic Blue Starburst combines the sound worlds of basses with fretted and fretless fingerboards in one high-quality instrument.
Ibanez SRAS7 Ashula: Basic construction.
To ensure that the Ibanez SRAS7 Ashula can be played smoothly across both fingerboards, Ibanez relies on the classic streamlined soundgear design. While okoume wood is used for the body, the attractive top is composed of two pieces of burl poplar and a centerpiece of ash. The bolt-on neck, on the other hand, is crafted in seven pieces from hard maple, bubinga and walnut, while the amazingly comfortable SRAS7 profile and flat 950 mm (37.4") fingerboard radius ensure agile handling.
The ergonomic Soundgear design with flat body and extremely comfortable neck profile promises excellent playing characteristics on both fingerboards of the Bass Workshop Ashula Bass.
Bubinga and AeroSilk Pickup for the Fretless Sound
The upper part of the neck is taken up by the fretless fretboard made of bubinga, in whose flank fretlines and side dots allow even inexperienced fretless bassists to intonate unerringly. In combination with the flatwound strings tuned from A to G and the Ibanez AeroSilk piezo system, the fretless part of the Ashula delivers an authentic double bass-like sound with percussive Attack and indulgent sustain unfolding, which is made for carrying bass lines.
Fretted rosewood fingerboard and magnetic pickups.
The lower half of the neck is occupied by the fretted rosewood fingerboard, with fancy SRAS Special inlays between its 22 medium frets for easy navigation. Two Ibanez SRAS J pick ups are used to pick up the four roundwound strings tuned from E to G, with their clear, brilliant sound and lively dynamics. The magnetic pickups are combined with anactive 2-band tone control to precisely adjust the traditional E-Bass sound.
Ibanez Bass Workshop SRAS7 Ashula: Hardware
Completing the Ibanez Bass Workshop SRAS7 Ashula's features are high-quality appointments that add the finishing touches to this avant-garde instrument. On the body, a total of seven Ibanez Mono-Rail V individual bridges are used, three of which are equipped with the pickups of the AeroSilk piezo system. Due to their design, they decouple the strings from influencing each other, promoting a differentiated sound with long sustain. From the bridges, the 34" scale length (864 mm) strings are routed across the neck before meeting the nut at the headstock and the precise as well as tuning-stable Ibanez Die-Cast tuners.
