Groovebox with FM Synthesizer
The LIVEN XFM from Sonicware is a practical groovebox with 4-OP FM synthesis. If you think of a "parameter grave" like some FM synthesizers of the 80s, you can rest assured. The XFM comes with four cleverly combined algorithms that are controlled by four knobs. This is followed by a resonant multimode filter, an LFO and an envelope. Four sequencer tracks can be filled with melodies, weird sci-fi sounds, basslines and percussive sounds. In addition, the XFM comes with an overlay that makes editing the sounds easier.
Sound generation
There are four synthesis models to choose from: X-Lab mixes two FM sounds with a single knob to create a completely new sound. Xform transforms one FM sound into another over a definable period of time. Morph continuously transforms between two FM sounds using the LFO. Library provides the 300 preset sounds with easy handling.
The preset sound leads into a resonant digital multimode filter, which offers lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass. Life is breathed in by means of an LFO and an ADSR envelope, and you can also record in the sequencer Parameterlocks. The signal path is completed with the switchable effects Chorus, Flanger, Delay, Hall and Plate.
Sequencer
The Sonicware Liven XFM sequencer is programmable live or stepwise and has a memory capacity of 128 patterns, each of which can be up to 64 steps long. Real-time transposition and setting Slide commands and other gate lengths are possible. The Shuffle (Swing) parameter adds more groove to melodies and basslines. The switchable arpeggiator functions as an additional playing aid and idea generator. Thanks to different voice modes the synthesizer can be played monophonic, legato or unison; for the latter, there is even a detune function, which creates very fat sounds.
