EPIPHONE SG Special Vintage Edition Vintage Worn Walnut
SG Special Electric Guitar with Ceramic Humbuckers and Vintage Worn Satin Finish
With the Epiphone SG Special Vintage Edition, Epiphone introduces the legendary SG Doublecut design at an affordable price. Two Epiphone 650R and 700T humbuckers with ceramic magnets provide juicy rock sounds in neck and bridge position, while the original 1960s Slim Taper 'D' profile gives an authentic feeling in all positions of the fingerboard. The powerful SG is completed by a sleek Vintage Worn Satin finish and solid hardware in the form of a LockTone Tune-o-Matic bridge and Epiphone Premium tuners.
Poplar body & mahogany neck
The basic construction of the SG Special VE is based on a poplar body made to original dimensions, which has been provided with a mahogany veneer. This is connected via a screw construction to the mahogany neck in the authentic 1960 Slim Taper'D' profile and provides easy access to the high positions of the 22-flush rosewood fingerboard thanks to the flat neck foot.
Epiphone 650R & 700T Humbucker
The 650R and 700T humbuckers used in the Epiphone SG Special VE rely on the increased output of two ceramic magnets and deliver tight low-end sounds with smooth mids and powerful trebles. Accordingly, the slightly hotter wound humbuckers are ideal for wide rock sounds and classic blues crunch. Last but not least, both pickups come in the classic open-coil black design.
Overview of the Epiphone SG Special Vintage Edition:
After working with synths for a couple of years - decided to give an electric guitar a try. And this Epiphone works flawlessly for various experimental sounds. Build quality is really solid, guitar is lightweight and colour looks fantastic. It's hard for me to rate sound yet, but I think it's good - just play with tone knob and try various settings on the amp. Price to performance ratio is excellent.
Actually the finish (walnut) is very good. Looks good front and back but for some reason the brown on the edge is a lot less appealing; it detracts from the overall picture. I am not sure that the other colours have the same effect. I like the super light weight and yet soundwise it still has body. Mine is needing a bit more fettling than other cheapish guitars but with some work the playability is good. I think there are other makes in the cheaper range that are as good for less money but even so this represents good value especially for a double cutaway guitar.
I did have a SG Gibson years ago and sold it. I wanted a similar guitar as I loved the feel of my Gibson, but I didn’t have the funds repurchase one This Epiphone feels very much the same for a fraction of the price, I am extremely happy with it. The finish is more like a stain rather than gloss am sure the black is different as they cost slight more.
