To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Technics presents the SL-1200M7 series, a limited edition of the cult turntable in seven different colors. The Technics SL-1200M7LER is the red variant and features the same ease of use, reliability and durability as the MK7 model with a coreless direct drive motor and other sound enhancing technologies. Features such as reverse play and the extended pitch range from ±8% to ±16% have, of course, also been incorporated into this model. The tonearm is statically balanced and highly sensitive, providing precise sampling of the recording signal . In terms of damping, the SL-1200M7LER features a two-layer platter design, a sturdy cabinet , and effective damping feet. Apart from that, the DJ turntable is equipped with long-lasting and brighter LED needle lighting . Other practical features include detachable power and signal cables for greater flexibility, and start/deceleration torque adjustment via the button below the turntable. In terms of style, the Technics SL-1200M7LER boasts a red cabinet, including black buttons, an S tonearm anodized in gold colors, as well as a slipmat with gold Technics logo, a plaque with engraved serial number, and a 50th anniversary sticker, all of which make for acohesive design with an appealing look .
In a direct drive turntable, the motor is directly connected to the platter. In this case, the so-called cogging torque could cause small irregularities in the rotation. For this reason, a new direct-drive motor has been designed for the Technics SL-1200M7LER that uses an iron-core-less stator, completely eliminating the source of cogging torque. This results in smooth rotation and powerful drive torque, allowing for precise and detailed sound quality on all records.
The turntable features a statically balanced S-shaped tonearm that captures the musical information contained in the record groove. The tonearm tube is made of lightweight, high-strength aluminum, with the gimbal bearing section incorporating a machined housing and high-precision bearing elements. This ensures excellent tracking with a minimum of unwanted needle movement even under demanding conditions such as scratching.
The die-cast aluminum platter has a two-layer construction. The entire underside of the platter is covered with vibration-absorbing rubber, which eliminates unwanted resonances and provides high stability. This protects the record from harmful vibrations and the result is an undistorted, authentic sound.
The DJ Turntable features an extremely rugged and extremely low vibration enclosure. The combination of the injection-molded aluminum frame and fiberglass-reinforced ABS plastic construction provides very high strength and vibration damping, ensuring precise and dynamic sound reproduction.
The feet of the SL-1200M7LER provide ideal damping thanks to the spring-rubber construction. In this way, an extremely good noise immunity is achieved, which is especially welcome for scratch DJs.
The Technics SL-1200M7LER offers besides the two conventional rotation speeds of 33-1/3 and 45 rpm also the possibility to activate 78 rpm via the main on/off switch. Apart from that, the pitch range can be extended from ±8% to ±16%, which delivers improved tracking performance and accuracy for perfect beatmatching thanks to fully digital control.
The turntable's needle illumination features a new pressure mechanism and a brighter, longer-lasting LED. In addition, the illumination area has been optimized to make it easier to see the needle even in very dark environments.
