With the MEGAfm MkII, Twisted Electrons presents a powerful yet compact desktop synthesizer with FM synthesis. The up to 12-voice instrument works with two YM3438 FM chips and provides four operators that are linked in eight algorithms. A real highlight in the MEGAfm MkII are the eight faders per operator, which allows a fast setting and adjustment of ratios and parameters. Rarely before such an easy handling of the complex FM synthesis was possible!

A playground for FM sounds!

Real life comes into the sounds with the three versatile assignable LFOs, each of which can be retriggered and synchronized to MIDI-Clock. Globally per algorithm the feedback matching is adjustable. In addition, you can influence the voice distribution, of course, the Unisono mode is simply stunning. With the vibrato effect you can give your sounds the final touch. The flexible Arpeggiator makes a good figure as a playing aid and even a SH-style step sequencer was integrated. The created sounds can be stored on six banks of 100 memory locations each. The full MIDI implementation should be convenient for anyone who wants to control the MEGAfm MkII from a Groovebox or with a DAW.

Special features of the MkII

Compared to the first version, the MkII uses two YM3438 FM chips, which are a variant of the functionally identical YM2612 chip used in the popular 90s game console Sega Megadrive II. In addition, the circuit layout has been updated and the FM chips have been socketed and made accessible via a bottom hatch. Thanks to this innovation, other chips like the YM2612, modern alternatives or custom sound chips can be used, combinations of two different chips are also possible. Regarding the audio circuitry, the MkII is identical to the first version and even the firmware is the same on both models.
