The Arturia KeyLab 61 MkII (Black) is a 61-Note USB Controller Keyboard designed as a professional aid in production and recording. The MkII version has multiple CV jacks, so this Master Keyboard is a perfect intermediate between Modular Synthesizers and the DAW. The 16x RGB Back-Lit Pads have 3x modes, Pad Mode, Chord Memory and Chord Transpose. 9x large Faders, 9x Knobs, 5x Expression Control Inputs, 4x CV Outputs and a smart Category Function are also available as standard. The KeyLab MkII Series also includes an impressive Software selection: Arturia's virtual Piano V2, the huge keyboard sound library Analog Lab 3 and a license for Ableton Live Lite.
The premium keyboard is taken from the MatrixBrute, and is easy to play with both Velocity and Pressure sensitivity. The Aluminium Case’s Wooden Sides lend a vintage look to the Instrument, whilst Aluminum Pitch-Bend and Modulation Wheels feel robust and precise. The controls can be customized to your preferred DAW Software. The goal is to have your hands free when composing instead of having to use the Mouse during composition, so that your inspirations and creations can flow freely.
I’ve owned a number of different controller keyboards over the years from different manufacturers (Akai, Native Instruments, Novation, CME) but for me personally this is the best one I’ve owned so far. Compact design, sold build quality (metal chassis), nice pads, great integration with Ableton Live…and I think Arturia’s idea to focus on dedicated support for their own Analog Lab is a good one. Works much better than the generic VST “wrapper” plugin that other manufacturers have tried. Feels more like you’re using a hardware synth and browsing the presets with the central knob works brilliantly. Recommended!
Delivery was 3 days earlier than my delivery date (4 days). The keyboard is brilliant. I had a an Alesis V49 keyboard before this which served its purpose of getting notes into the DAW but it was time for an upgrade. I was torn between this one or the Komplete Kontrol 61 and decided on this one and so glad I did. The feel of the keys is SO much better than my Alesis V49 and the setup and installation process was a breeze. The keyboard has a premium feel and is a nice weight. I've got everything mapped out to use in FL Studio. The included software is great and theres so many sounds to choose from. Overall I'm very happy. My Dad was due an upgrade and after using mine for 5 minutes, his mind was made up and he's bought one from here too and is over the moon with it. Would highly recomend it to anyone.
As a long time Roland Keyboard user I was reluctant to use another brand, but Roland have discontinued the A800-Pro which I had planned to use for my next project/tour.
As a long time user of Arturia software, I decided to give their Keylab range a go.
The construction is excellent, I have no concerns using this on tour.
The Keybed is absolutely excellent, with the nicest feeling keys I have ever used. An absolute joy to play without fatigue or discomfort.
The panel is nicely laid out, with an extremely high quality 4x4 sample pad matrix, that is perfectly aftertouch sensitive allowing extra expression, and sufficient knobs and sliders for most needs.
The bend and modulation wheels are up up on the panel, not to the left as is usual, which can be a bit awkward while you get used to it.
The DAW integration is a nice feature, though somehow feels a little bit like an afterthought despite supporting all major packages (I personally use Logic Pro, and Ableton Live).
Overall an excellent keyboard. I will probably keep using Keylab keyboards for the foreseeable future.
