The Boss Katana-100 MkII Combo Amplifier is a Modelling Combo Amplifier for Electric Guitar which brings with it extensive detail improvements in terms of sound variety and usability. Each of the 5x Amp models is equipped with a second voicing, while the Effects section is equipped with double pots, making 5x different Effects usable at the same time. As a further special feature, the Katana-100 MkII offers a stereo expand function for the line out and power Amp in connections, which combine 2x Katana MkII Amps into one stereo set-up. The elaborate Tube-Logic circuitry with 100W of power Amplifier output, together with the 12" Boss Katana Custom Speaker, provides powerful sounds with the authentic character of a tube Amp. The Boss Katana-100 MkII offers an integrated USB Audio Interface as well as line out and Headphone connections with natural sounding speaker simulation.
Central point of the sound generation of the Katana-100 MkII Combo is a total of 5x Amp modes, which easily fulfil both classic and modern wishes. While the Clean mode delivers clear and transparent sounds, Crunch stands for a subtly breaking up Overdrive. The Lead and Brown modes, on the other hand, advance into higher Gain regions and create the right foundation for the styles of Rock and Metal. The Acoustic Mode is also available for the unadulterated amplification of Electro-Acoustic Guitars. Each Amp mode on the Katana-100 MkII also features a 2nd voicing, while the 3-band tone control allows you to adjust the sound.
The Boss Katana-100 MkII also features an extremely flexible on-board effects section, with 2x double-deck potentiometers and the Reverb knob allowing up to 5x character-rich Effects to be used simultaneously. In addition to the booster to increase the signal strength, the classic modulation Effects, a Delay and other FX types are available. In addition, the Katana-100 MkII offers an Effect path to integrate your own Effect devices into the signal path. With the revised Boss Tone Studio App, the Effect path can also be set to serial or parallel operation, and additional effects are also available via the program.
With 100W of power output, the Katana-100 MkII Combo provides ample volume reserves, while the Tube Logic Circuitry provides the natural character and drive of a Tube Amp. In addition, the power control switch allows the output of the power amp to be reduced in 2x steps to 50W or 0.5W, so that nothing stands in the way of use in smaller clubs or even in your own living room. With a 12" Boss Katana Custom Speaker, the Combo Amp also delivers a powerful sound image that brings the set sound to life with detailed liveliness.
The Katana-100 MkII Combo is characterized by a variety of useful connections that support the flexible use of the Combo. Accordingly, the power amp-in allows the connection of Pre-Amps or Multi-Effects, while the line-out outputs the Guitar signal for direct recording. The Stereo Expand function also allows 2x Boss Katana MkII 100W class units to be connected together to form a stereo setup. The Combo also has a Headphone Jack for silent Electric Guitar playing and a USB Port for the integrated Audio Interface or connection to the Boss Tone Studio software. Finally, there are connectors for optional Footswitches or Expression Pedals to control the Amp.
It sounds excellent, the clean is excellent for pedals and the features are incredible. The only thing that would have made it even better is a connection for a cabinet.
I mean, why should you trust me - I don't know anything, I'm just an advanced beginner. BUT, what I can say is that this thing is just so much fun. It sounds awesome, goes stupidly loud, but still sounds great (to my untrained ear) at low volumes, and has so many effects that with this and a looper (and maybe an expression pedal at some point in the future), I really don't see how you need anything else unless you're a semi-pro. Fantastic investment and makes me want to play more and be better.
BOSS created the product like a boss, and confirms it's the boss on this market.
I own the old 50 watt Katana and the Katana Mini. Both are great. Just bought the Katana 100 mk2, and yes, after whole day spent on setting and playing - I love it.
Whatever you need - crispy or warm cleans, crunch or hi-gain sounds you will get it from this amp. Plus - lot of BOSS stomp boxes available as plugins (7 at a time, where 5 manageable by additional GA-FC foot switch).
Bit ugly, but fully working BOSS Tone Studio software for setting each aspect of this amp and available effects).
Total 9 presets (channel Ax4, channel Bx4 plus "Panel"). Combined with switchable effects quite ok to play a gig.
Considering the price/value ratio this amp is an unbeatable champion on the market. I bought a week ago KATAlist from some multi-Line company, and I am sending it back. That thing is good only for couch, while Katana is great for practicing, recording and life shows (assuming you will buy the foot controller).
To summarize:
- great sounding
- very flexible
- very nicely priced
- relatively small and lightweight
You can't go wrong buying it.
I love the Katana MK2 100W.
It has lived up to it's reputation and all the reviews I read.
A really great amp and perfect for gigging and at an amazing value price.
The sound is superb and the quality matches too. The only thing wrong was the wrong power cable was included, but a new one was sent the same day and arrived the following day
