The Technics - SL-1200MK7 is the latest version of the legendary DJ turntable. It offers the same ease of use, reliability and durability as its predecessors, but has been optimized with a coreless direct drive motor and other improved technologies. In addition, it offers new DJ features such as reverse play for maximum creativity and an extended pitch range from ±8% to ±16%.
The tonearm is statically balanced and extremely sensitive to ensure precise tracking of the record signal. In terms of vibration damping, the Technics SL-1200MK7 has a two-layer platter construction, a stable housing and efficient damping feet. In addition, the turntable has a durable and bright LED needle light. Other practical features include detachable power and signal cables for increased flexibility and the ability to adjust the start and stop torque.
The Technics SL-1200MK7 is characterised by its silver housing, silver buttons and S-shaped tonearm, which offer a consistent silver design with an attractive and sophisticated look. With all these features, this model sets a new standard for DJ turntables.
A direct drive turntable connects the motor directly to the platter. In this configuration, the so-called "cogging torque" could occasionally cause small irregularities in the rotation. For this reason, a new direct drive motor was developed for the SL-1200MK7 that works without an iron core in the stator, completely eliminating the cause of the cogging torque. The result is smooth rotation and a powerful drive that ensures precise and detailed sound quality for all records.
The Technics SL-1200 MK7 is equipped with a statically balanced S-shaped tonearm that precisely captures the music information in the record groove. The tonearm tube is made of lightweight but high-strength aluminium, while the bearing section of the gimbal has a precisely manufactured housing and high-quality bearing elements. This ensures an outstanding tracking process that minimises unwanted needle movement, even under demanding conditions such as scratching.
The platter of the SL-1200MK7 is made of die-cast aluminium and has a two-layer structure. The entire underside of the platter is coated with a vibration-damping rubber that effectively eliminates unwanted resonances and ensures high stability. This protects the record from vibrations and results in a clear and authentic sound.
The DJ turntable is housed in a sturdy enclosure that effectively minimises vibrations. The combination of an injection-moulded aluminium frame and ABS plastic construction, reinforced with glass fibres, provides remarkable strength and vibration containment. The feet are equipped with a spring-rubber construction that ensures excellent damping and high noise immunity, a great advantage especially for scratch DJs.
In addition to the standard speeds of 33 ⅓ and 45 RPM, the Technics SL-1200MK7 also allows 78 RPM to be activated. The pitch range can be extended from ±8% to ±16%, providing more precise tracking performance and accuracy for perfect beatmatching thanks to full digital control.
The needle illumination has been equipped with a new push mechanism and features a bright and long-lasting LED. The illumination area has also been optimized so that the needle remains visible even in extremely dark environments.

It is expensive but top quality and having the cables detachable is a good improvement for the Mk7. The Mk7 is a bit lighter than previous 1200/1210s. For people new to the technics it is also worth noting that they do not come with a cartridge and stylus so that also needs to be factored into the cost.
Very fine turntable, fantastic looks and very smooth operation. I really appreciate the interchangeble cable option and the settings on the torque and the led colour. However craftsmenship is far from perfect. Firstly, the tonearm lift is far worse then on the mk2, it even makes a squeaking noise when lifting the tonearm. The target light assembly is a cheap-feel solution, but at least it is led and bright. So bright that it reflects directly into your eyes from the side of the platter. Not very convenient. Otherwise I recommend this for home/hobby DJ use. I think the audiophile community will not appreciate these issues that I just mentioned. But in terms of operation, I find this really a joy to play and mix with.
The new improved MK7 version of the Technics, a familar face but with a few new tricks and bits, which improve on what has been the industry standard for 50 years. MK2 had a built in ground and audio cable, these MK7 have an area where you can attach and detach the leads ... which saves on the longevity of the leads especially if you have good audio cables. The turntables are sturdy though they are lighter than the MK2. I'm still a lil bit on the fence with the pitch, but I am coming from using Numark TTX's which responded great, the pitch is good probs just me and takes a bit of getting used to. Overall a fantastic purchase, love them.
This new Technics turntable is a pleasure for (almost) all senses. It has a beautiful design to look at and to feel, the sound is superb, you can almost smell and taste the music:) I recommend it for both professional and home use.
