The Tube Amp Doctor EL84 NOS Sovtek is a power amp pentode with the original designation 6P14P and comes from old Sovtek stocks, which were originally manufactured for the Russian military. Accordingly, this design is a particularly robust and durable representative of the classic EL84 and is used in numerous amplifier circuits with US-American voicing.
I use these in an Orange Tiny Terror head. I normally go for the duett matched version (since the amp only needs two of them), but with the crazy valve shortage we’re experiencing nowadays i was only able to get them as a quartett. Which is fine, because hey - now i have spares :) Initial testing show they offer a nice, chunky, breakup when maxing out on the amp’s output volume. When used on lower settings they provide proper clean tones even at high volumes and they work really well with the TAD ECC83’s i use in the preamp. Top this up with TAD’s quality control and we got some nice, reliable valves on our hands.
Ps- had a blooper with the shipping address when i ordered them, but the Musicstore staff were super helpful and the package arrived on time and straight to my doorstep.
