Veel geluidsfreaks en pedaalboordfetisjisten vertelden EHX-baas Mike Matthews over een pedaal dat veel opwinding veroorzaakte omdat het alleen verkrijgbaar was voor een exorbitant hoge prijs. Dit is de "Centaur kloon".
Omdat het deel uitmaakt van de bedrijfsfilosofie om arme muzikanten met goedkope maar goede producten uit de jam te helpen, gaf Matthews de opdracht om een gelijkwaardig maar betaalbaar alternatief te ontwikkelen. De Soul Food biedt een transparante overdrive met goede respons, waarbij het ingebouwde circuit veel hoofdruimte biedt en de toondefinitie aanzienlijk verhoogt.

The Soul Food can handle anything from classic fuzz to smooth overdrive, always with a warm and smooth undertone. By screwing open the body, you can chose to have it as a true bypass pedal or as a buffer. In my experience, the buffer is very good, so there is no need to have it as a bypass. A keeper on the pedalboard!
