The iZotope Neutron 2 Advanced (Download) is the software many musicians and producers have always wanted to optimize their workflow. It offers especially beginners a lot of help in the field of mixing, while professionals benefit from fast test mixes and similar applications. Neutron 2 Advanced offers the full range of tools needed for a professional mix. Thus, the software is not only suitable for the start into the world of mixing, but also for the experienced mixing engineer. In addition to the useful Track Assistant, which uses an analysis procedure to make song specific parameter settings and thus provides good suggestions for an easy start, Neutron 2 Advanced comes with a large selection of features such as the Visual Mixer, Masking Meter, Gate, 12-band EQ, Compressor, Limiter, Exciter, Transient Shaper, Tonal Balance Control and more.
Modules Component Plug-Ins
The Advanced version of the software allows the use of all Neutron modules as individual plug-ins within your DAW or editing program.
Tonal Balance Control
Neutron’s Tonal Balance control plug-in is the first of its kind and convinces with its track analysis and internal communication between all Neutron instances. This plug-in is based on the analysis of hundreds of professional tracks from all genres and different decades. Thus, these selectable suggestions of the respective genres are considered "target mixes", on which one orientates oneself when mixing.
Visual Mixer
The Visual Mixer provides a special way to visualize the instruments. This allows all instruments to be moved on a "volume scale" and in the panorama without changing the view. The width of each signal can also be easily changed by dragging it with the mouse button.
Masking Meter
Another special feature is the extremely useful Masking Meter. Overlapping frequencies are a big problem in the mix can be difficult to locate, especially for beginners. With the Masking Meter you can compare and analyse the frequency ranges of several tracks/instruments. The masking frequencies are visually displayed with the aid of the so-called "northern lights" and red bars above the analyser. All you need to do is use the equalizer to lower or raise the areas.
Track Assistant
iZotope's Track Assistant provides an optimal start for any project. Based on the song specific analysis, the Elements version provides EQ settings that adapt to the material. Whether it be guitars, percussion, vocals or overemphasis and holes in the frequency range - the Track Assistant provides a solid starting point for mixing, which can of course be edited at any time.
12-Band EQ
Neutron’s 12-band equalizer offers many possibilities of frequency processing and works extremely precisely. Both the visual display and the sound are convincing right from the first test, as this tool is not only intuitive, but also quickly leads to the desired result. For an even warmer sound and the popular analogue touch, Neutron 2 also adds soft saturation.
Gate
iZotopes Gate offers modern DSP features including analogue-style features like hysteresis with optimized noise gating. With its 3x bands, crossover learn function and hold option, the user retains ultimate control over their tracks.
Compressor
A compressor is often vital in the signal chain, which is why it has of course been integrated and can be used anywhere. It offers various work modes such as Clean, Modern and Vintage, whilst the Learn Function offers user customisation.
Transient Shaper
More clarity, more assertiveness, more loudness - those who want to give their mix and/or their individual signals that certain something resort to Neutron's Transient Shaper. With the 3x contour shapes (Sharp, Medium and Smooth) and the Global Modes (Precise, Balanced and Loose) all possible instruments can be brought forward in the mix.
Exciter
Neutrons Exciter provides punch, warmth and presence without blurring the sound. With its 3x Emphasis modes and the unique blend interface (includes tape, tube and 2x special iZotope algorithms) the fine tuning becomes especially interesting.
Limiter
Neutron’s Limiter is equipped with 3x algorithms and allows settings for different signals and genres, from ultra-transparent clean pumping to full brick wall. Each algorithm has 3x modes to create the sound character and intensity, while True Peak, RMS and Short-term Metering provide precise information for broadcast and codec standards.
