The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Washed Cherry Sunburst Ultra Light Aged represents the first vintage of the golden Les Paul era of the late fifties, which heralded the famous Burst models. As a genuine instrument of the Gibson Custom Shop, no expense or effort was spared to reissue the classic as true to the original as possible. In addition to a historically correct wood selection and electronics that have been recreated down to the smallest detail of the corresponding era, an authentic ultra-light aging treatment from the Gibson Murphy Lab is used in this reissue.

Chunky C mahogany neck with long neck base

The key to the success of a good Les Paul Reissue is found in its basic construction, which consists of a strong Chunky C mahogany neck with a long glued neck foot for a direct response with long sustain. The body, also made of mahogany, is one solid piece and carries a two-piece maple top, which is finished with a beautiful Royalite binding. Of course, a 22-fret fretboard made of East Indian rosewood with historically correct Authentic Medium Jumbo fretwire is a must for a successful '58 reissue!

Hand-wired electronics with authentic components

The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Washed Cherry Sunburst Ultra Light Aged comes with a hand-wired electronics setup that expertly recreates the sound and response of traditional models. Here, two hand-wound Gibson Custom Bucker pickups are used, which follow the classic PAF recipe with their Alnico III magnets and unwaxed coils. Additionally, the treble roll-off of the tone controls is done via real CTS potentiometers and paper-in-oil capacitors to skillfully recreate Clapton's coveted 'Woman Tone'.

Hardware and Finish with Murphy Lab Aging Treatment

The result is an aged, yet amazingly well-maintained instrument with minimal signs of wear that will continue to accumulate authentic playing marks over time.
